Review

Plot:
Tic tac toe is serious business, guys. Deadly serious. Tic Tac Toe Joe parodies the grand shounen game series like Hikaru no Go and Yu-gi-oh, and it does it incredibly well. Anyone who is a fan of such series will instantly recognize the characters and plot devices that move the story along. From the characters who take the game WAY too seriously to Joe inexplicably being allowed into the international finals with no prior knowledge of the game, this series manages to pack in all the beloved tropes of shounen manga into just a few pages.

Art:
Panels and layouts are excellent and follow the shounen style very clearly. The linework is clean - maybe too clean. The artwork looks flat in some places from the clean linework and the lack of toning. Some of the proportions are off at times, and lack of detail makes the pages still feel a bit amateurish in places. It's not really a huge detracting factor, though. Expressions are the strongest part of the artwork, drawn in larger than life exaggeration accurate to any shounen series.

Other:
The series is at an unfortunate standstill with no implication of it ever being completed. So little has been done, it's really a shame that there isn't more to it. If it wasn't so nicely excecuted, I wouldn't have taken the time to mention it. In this case, less is hardly more. More would be nice. Really nice.

Final Verdict:
It's a quick, funny read. Not enough to entertain you for more than a few minutes, but definitely worth the read if you're looking for a bit of shonen parody humor to amuse yourself.
